What Was Needed

SAP use the Open Source Directory Server OpenLDAP as a part of their Identity Management infrastructure. Serving a user base of over 1,500 users, SAP approached Sirius as the leading Consultants for Enterprise-Class OpenLDAP implementation and integration.

There were multiple requirements:

  • Extend OpenLDAP for use as the secure backend for SSH certificate management
  • Allow multiple servers to authenticate users logging in via SSH using public keys stored in a central OpenLDAP directory
  • Allow multiple servers to authorize users for SSH access using LDAP groups
  • Use OpenLDAP as the authentication source for MacOS Desktops
Sirius Recommends

OpenLDAP is the perfect platform-neutral, high-performance, low-cost solution to Identity Management and Directory Service needs, giving economic scaling through an Enterprise-Class Open Source solution.

Engaging with a mix of Consultancy and on-the-ground Deployment Project work and Systems Integration, Sirius worked with SAP’s internal team to successfully implement, secure, bed-in and test the required features.

The Outcome

OpenLDAP was successfully deployed in all of SAP’s needed scenarios on-time and within budget. Total functionality delivered at a fraction of a cost of alternative proprietary solutions, and giving a platform-neutral base ready for future developments without proprietary lock-in.

SAP went on to choose Sirius as their 24/7/365 Support partner to provide expert level support for the new system.
